The Estancia High School Aquatic Center received a complete make-over, much to the excitement and anticipation of the Costa Mesa swimming community. The project saw to the demolition of the old 25-meter pool and the construction of a new 50-meter pool. To ensure that practices were not disturbed, Estancia’s aquatic sports practices were held at another district’s school. The renovations of the aquatic center also added new offices for the coaching staff, team rooms, restrooms, shade structures, a snack bar and a lunch area. No existing structural drawings were available for the project. Miyamoto created a data collection program to verify the existing roof structures for the gym, locker room building “L” and administration building “F” to modify the structure for improvements to the pool. Miyamoto worked through the design approach with DSA to minimize the amount of strengthening required to maintain the project construction budget.
