The 150,000 sqm. development is a high-specification residential towers in Surabaya, Indonesia. Phase 1 comprises 3 over 50-storey towers linked with skybridges at two levels. The structural and construction challenges included very high seismic forces, extremely soft ground up to 20m below existing ground, and construction technology available locally. Franky took the role as the project manager for Meinhardt Indonesia’s structure and MEP team, leading the coordination with other consultants. On the structural engineering side, he drove and implemented automation processes, integrating the modeling-analysis-design with the drawings production. Only by embracing the automation processes, the large and complex project could advance from concept to authority approval and tender documentations in 5 months. Along the way, the team produced and presented various studies options for optimization to the Client and architect, including studies on structurally linked and unlinked towers and the impact on the two scheme on structural reinforcement tonnage.
