Dr. H. Kit Miyamoto took time to sit down with a reporter from the Aarthik Abhiyan Daily newspaper in Nepal to talk about the role that the private sector should play in the rebuilding efforts for Nepal.
“Private sector investment in the reconstruction efforts is very important,” said Dr. Miyamoto. Now is the time to plan for the reconstruction and strengthening phase. It is possible to spend 2 to 3 percent of a building’s cost to strengthen it. This is much cheaper than having to rebuild it once an earthquake hits and the building is damaged beyond repair or collapses.
